Cycling the Sally Gap – a legendary heather-strewn beauty spot high in the Wicklow Mountains – is on the to-do list for many visitors to County Wicklow. However, the sheer steepness of the hills is too daunting for many and they miss out on the thrilling experience of soaring through the spectacular landscape, breathing in crisp, fresh air on two wheels.

This cycling tour enables you to have that experience, but to avoid all of that thigh-burning cycling by starting right at the top!

Beginning with the stunning views of the Sally Gap, you will cycle primarily downhill towards Laragh, passing peat bogs, hillsides awash with mauve and lilac heather, and the sublime Glenmacnass Waterfall. At Laragh, you might want to tuck into a hearty lunch at Lynham’s, or enjoy eating al fresco with the picnic you’ve packed. After lunch, you might want to visit Glendalough, one of Ireland’s most visited sites – and a place of overwhelming beauty and serenity – and then head back to Rathdrum, stopping at the wool factory en-route to purchase a sheep-skin rug.

This self-guided tour is set by your own pace, and you can stop to take pictures or call in at any of the sites as you please. Leaving at 10 a.m. and returning to the campsite anytime before 6 p.m., you have the entire day to discover the beauty of County Wicklow.

All gear and safety equipment is included: Trek mountain bike, bicycle helmet, high visibility jacket, bike lock and map.

Tour costs €40.00 per person.
